About Us

About Us:

Bweeng Celtic FC was founded in the late summer of 2010. We registered with the Cork Athletic Union League and played our first season in AUL League 3. We play our home games in Bweeng Community Centre and Sports Grounds. Jim McCarthy was Bweeng Celtic FCs first manager. Our first kit resembled that of Brazils, with yellow jerseys and blue shorts sporting our crest that every man, woman and child in Bweeng will now recognise. Completing that jersey was our then club sponsor, Mollys Bar. Aisa and Mollys bar remain our sponsor today.

Our first competitive match as Bweeng Celtic FC was at home to Rathcoole Rovers. We won this game in front of a large crowd that had gathered to see the game. Their support has continued to this day through good times and bad.

During our first season a lot was learned both on and off the field of play. On the field, life long friendships were formed assisted by the never say die attitude that is still a great attribute of the team. Off the field, the management committee learned what was involved in running a soccer club and they all worked together with great work done.
Edmond McCarthy was elected manager for the 2011/12 season. A busy summer was had and a few new player appeared in the dressing room from pre-season. We won our first peice of silverware as a club when we went to Mallow and brought home the Colm Sheehan Memorial Cup, beating Kilmallock and Mallow in the process.

Prior to the start of the 2011/12 season the structure of the leagues in our division changed. With just nine teams in AUL 3B the result was that there were extended periods without competitive games.

Bweeng Celtic FC took part in the Cian & Calvin Ellard Punch Memorial match at O'Shea Park - Tower in December 2011. This match was in aid of the Cian and Calvin Ellard Punch Fund. Bweeng Celtic FC lined up against a Punch/Ellard XI and ran out winners on the day. Bweeng Celtic FC will host the Cian and Calvin Ellard Punch Memorial Tournament in the furture. It is envisaged that it will be held in December of each year.
Last season we held what is now our Annual Christmas Draw on 17th December 2011 in Mollys Bar. We would like to thank everyone that donated a prize for the draw and for their continued support over the years. Much needed money was raised from the draw.
In the summer of 2012, Edmond stood down as manager of the club. Malcolm Stokes took over which is sure to bring huge experience to the team.
